This course involves sophisticated hands-on laboratory experience in biochemistry using GFP as the main instructional tool. Topics include expression of GFP in bacteria, extraction, clarification, precipitation, protein purification of GFP by hydrophobic interaction, ion exchange, and gel filtration, and the unique three-phase partitioning method. Other experiments include: DNA precipitation, electrophoresis, HPLC, spectrophotometry, fluorometry, and protein denaturation/renaturation experiments. Details of the lab activities are presented in group discussions with a student/teacher...Learn More
